The historical Gateway of India is Bombay’s iconic harbour-side destination, located next to the famous Taj Mahal hotel and the Royal Bombay Yacht Club. Tourists, hotel guests, private boat owners and yachtsmen regularly use the quay to embark / disembark from boats. Marinetek delivered a safe and convenient solution for the many users by installing a floating jetty accessed from the quay by an aluminium gangway.

The heavy concrete pontoons were most appropriate choice for the semi-exposed location, providing a more stable platform for people to walk on. Marinetek India supplied and installed the six Premier pontoons for the project, connecting them end-to-end and side-by-side to make a 24m x 6m floating jetty. The installation required a special design to cater for mooring the jetty in strong tidal current and to allow for a 6m rise and fall of tide levels. Special flexible connectors were provided to allow controlled flexing of the jetty in waves.

Taqah is a coastal town in southwestern Oman that enjoys a busy fishing industry reliant on small boats powered by outboard engines. Marina pontoons were the ideal solution for convenient and safe berthing, and Marinetek worked with Turkish contracting group STFA to build a new harbour that would be a big asset to the local community.

Concrete pontoons were the most appropriate product for the project due to their low maintenance requirements and resistance to high summer temperatures up to 50°C and humidity up to 90%. The marina consists of two fish-landing pontoon to offload the catch and a 16 berth marina.

The 20 m x 6 m, 80-ton float units used to build the marina were transported 1,600 km by road.

Purposely positioned on the east and west sides of the iconic Palm Jumeirah’s trunk, this 522-berth marina held the record in 2007 as the biggest budget marina in the world. It accommodates yachts of 10 to 30 m in length and the berths are evenly divided, with 261 in each basin. Marinetek’s extra wide and stable concrete pontoons provide an extraordinary level of comfort for marina guests and set a new standard for marinas in the UAE.

Berths at Palm Jumeirah are of generous width to suit modern yachts and finger piers provide convenient alongside access with high tech utilities, discrete LED illumination, underwater lighting and designer fixtures and fittings. Each basin benefits from two fully equipped floating utility buildings. The marina is managed by Nakheel Marine and, as part of The Palm, has become one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks.
